Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in America.   It is a racquet sport that blends elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong.   It is played both indoors and outdoors on a badminton size court.   The same court is used for singles and doubles play.  The court is lined similar to a tennis court with a right and left service court and a no volley zone in front of the net often referred to as the “kitchen”.    The equipment consists of a paddle made of wood or composite materials and a perforated plastic ball similar to a wiffle ball.  Games are played to 11 winning by 2.  Rules are interesting and it takes a few games to get use to the scoring, the double bounce rule and rotation of serve.   Pickleball is played by people of all ages.  You do not need any racquet sport experience.   It originated from the Pritchard Family living on Bainbridge Island Washington in 1965.   They say the name came from the family dog, Pickles, who was interested in the game and kept running off with the ball.
